iced salted caramel macchiato
If you’re looking to make a more delicious and cheaper version of a caramel macchiato at home, you’ve come to the right place. We’re upgrading a regular caramel macchiato by making a super simple, super flavorful homemade salted caramel sauce. The combination of salty & sweet is simply just perfection. Pair that with your favorite milk (mine is oat milk at the moment) and some espresso and you’ve got yourself one delicious homemade iced caramel macchiato.
Aaand just to clarify – I know this isn’t a “true” macchiato. A true macchiato is simply just espresso with a dollop of steamed milk foam on top. However, this drink resembles what is most often called a “macchiato” in the United States so that is why we’re calling it one here today.
So let’s get into it!
papanicholas coffee
My favorite brand of coffee is PapaNicholas Coffee, so it’s perfect that I get to work with them! I use their coffee beans every single day and am so happy to be able to spread my love of their coffee to you. Today I partnered up with PapaNicholas Coffee for this delicious iced salted caramel macchiato and used their House Blend Espresso which is toasty yet bright, with notes of caramel & graham cracker. I can’t recommend them enough, so please be sure to check them out! You can find their website by clicking here. And if you do end up purchasing their coffee be sure to use code FRESH20 which will get you 20% off any of their coffee!.

ingredients for an iced salted caramel macchiato:
salted caramel sauce:
- Granulated sugar: the base of the caramel
- Unsalted butter: helps make the caramel smooth and velvety. You can swap in salted butter for unsalted if that is what you have on hand, just be careful when adding additional salt. I would recommend adding in the extra salt 1/4 tsp. at a time and tasting to make sure it does not end up too salty.
- Heavy whipping cream: helps smooth out the caramel and make it pourable.
- Salt: the perfect balance to the sweetness of the caramel. I used just regular table salt, but if you want to use sea salt or flaky sea salt you should double the amount.
iced salted caramel macchiato:
- Espresso: use your favorite espresso here. I used PapaNicholas House Blend Espresso. You could also use instant espresso here – just use however much the packaging calls for with 2 oz. of hot water.
- Ice: for an iced drink of course.
- Salted caramel sauce: we’ll use some of the sauce mentioned above in this drink.
- Milk: use your favorite milk here – I used oat milk!

- 56 g unsalted butter cubed, room temperature (4 tbsp.)
- 130 g heavy whipping cream room temperature (5 oz.)
- ¾ tsp. salt
Iced Salted Caramel Macchiato
- 2 tbsp. salted caramel sauce
- 6 oz. milk of choice
- 2 oz. freshly brewed espresso

- Add in the butter and whisk until the mixture is smooth.
- Take the mixture off of the heat, and slowly whisk in the heavy cream until it is completely incorporated into the caramel, then whisk in the salt.
Iced Salted Caramel Macchiato
- Optional, but for a more aesthetic drink you can use the back of a spoon to spread salted caramel sauce onto the inside of the cup.
- Pour 2 tbsp. of the salted caramel sauce into your cup.
- Add in your milk of choice, then add in ice, leaving room at the top for the espresso.
- Brew the espresso, then slowly pour it over the milk. Serve and enjoy!
